Purchase raspberries that are brightly colored without the hulls attached. One-half pint equals about 1 cup. When you get home, discard any raspberries that are soft, shriveled or moldy. Quickly rinse remaining berries in water, then place in a single layer in a paper towel-lined bowl. They’ll stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

We find it difficult to prevent a loaf of French bread from becoming hard before we use it up. So now I slice the loaf, return it to its original wrapper, then place it in a plastic bag in the freezer. To use, dampen a microwave-safe
paper towel, wrap it around the number of slices you’d like, and warm in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. They taste just like fresh. Then simply return the rest of the loaf to the freezer. —Carolyn De Walt, Ft. Worth, Texas

My husband eats egg substitute several times a week. He prefers it fixed omelet-style with onions, green peppers, mushrooms, bacon and cheese. I chop the veggies in quantity once a week, then saute enough for several days at a time and store in the fridge. Also, when I have time, I microwave a whole pound of bacon at once, wrap it in a paper towel, place it in a plastic bag and keep in the refrigerator for later use. —Clara H., Punta Gorda, Florida

To eliminate “lunch box odor” caused by a mixture of foods, I place a teaspoon of baking soda in the bottom of the box and cover it with a paper towel before placing the food in the box. The soda will keep the lunch box smelling fresh for a week or more at a time. —Laura K., Brandon, South Dakota
